Long-time NABE member Martin Feldstein will retire as president and CEO of the National Bureau of Economic Research as of the end of June, after 30 years of service to NBER. According to the organization, he will become president emeritus of NBER and will continue to serve as an NBER research associate and as a professor at Harvard University. Feldstein is also a NABE fellow. James Poterba, head of the economics department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will become president of NBER on July 1.
Several NABE members served on the NBER Presidential Search Committee, including: Michael Moskow, a NABE fellow, currently senior fellow for Global Economics at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; Richard Berner, chief U.S. economist, Morgan Stanley, and past NABE president; Kathleen Cooper, dean of the College of Business Administration at Southern Methodist University, and past NABE president; Ray Fair, professor of economics at Yale University; and Maria v.N. Whitman, professor of business administration and public policy at the University of Michigan.
Douglas Duncan is now chief economist at Fannie Mae in Washington, D.C.
Robert F. Graboyes is senior health care advisor, National Federation of Independent Business, Washington, D.C.
William Shearin, manager, economic intelligence at Chrysler, has been named an Edelman Laureate, awarded for excellence in Operations Research. Co-authored by Shearin, the paper presented to INFORMS was titled "Chrysler and J. D. Power: Pioneering Scientific Price Customization in the Automobile Industry."
