9/11: Two Years Later

As the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and Pentagon approached, NABE began receiving phone calls and emails from people who had seen our 9/11 pages and wanted to get in touch with us.

We learned about a new Marriott World Trade Center web site, created by a survivor, and touched base with a Florida author who is writing a book about the Marriott. We heard from the wife and sister of an Iowa businessman who perished. They hoped we could provide them with more information about what happened inside the Marriott World Trade Center hotel on Sept. 11, 2001, where several hundred of us had gathered in the Grand Ballroom to hear Morgan Stanley President Robert Scott address us on the final day of our 2001 Annual Meeting.

We learned that the flag that flew atop the Marriott WTC hotel was recovered and is now on permanent display at Marriott headquarters in Bethesda, Md. In New York City, the New York Marriott Financial Center and the New York Marriott Marquis planned to observe the second anniversary of the attacks with moments of silence and a display with two pillar candles in the lobby, in memory of the two Marriott WTC hotel employees who died after helping guests out of the hotel. The hotels will also host families and organizations participating in memorial events, according to Marriott spokespersons.
